Three Courses. Six People. My Place. Tuesday.

Well, that’s the idea anyway. I invite a group of friends, friends-of-friends, and some random So-and-So’s round my place on Tuesday and cook them a three course dinner. And I’ll take pictures. And then share them with you! I’m hoping it will be fun. You see, I cook a lot. And I really enjoy experimenting with food and display. So, it make sense to take some pictures and put it out there into the internet ether. You’ll see recipes on this site, but they will all have a Doyle twist, and I’ll explain my reasoning behind changes to any classics. I think cooking can be easy and fun but also entertaining, so why not treat it as any other art? Each week’s party will  have a theme and I’ll show you what inspired me for that theme. For example, I’m big into Russian folk design at the moment, so, it’s likely there will be a party coming-up where borsch meets Potemkin meets…Natalia Vodianova!

You’ll also notice that my regular job is in fashion. When I’m not writing on here, I edit an online men’s fashion journal called Buckstyle, and I’m a freelance fashion film-maker. From my experience, fashionistas love to eat – especially models! So, from time to time, I’ll be getting some views and tips on food from the people I work with in my day-to-day life.

So, check back regularly. The first dinner party is next Tuesday, 7.30 for 8. Bring a bottle!

  • just found Natasha Poly’s Borsch recipe in an old issue of i-D mag :) will send you !

  • Looking forward to your first dinner party… Recently did a Come Dine With Me thing round wifey’s colleague’s house and, well, I allude to what went on on a completely unrelated blog post right here… http://www.southernhospitality.co.uk/blog/?p=4212

Great idea for a blog and the execution thus far is perfectly realised.

Thanks dandygum! Now I REALLY want to do a russian night – maybe even a Natasha Poly night.

Cheers David! Love the fact you review rap but are also into your Come Dine With Me! haha! And that episode with Caprice?!!??! I guess if I had a swimming pool, I would get some synchronised swimmers in too. if I were to do a West Coast Rap themed night, what would I serve…?

  • West coast you’d be looking at a car boot full of maple syrup chicken wings (the maple my own addition ;) ), t-bone steak as big as your head and all manner of greasy biscuits to scoop up all the sauce. And as anyone who’s ever been Stateside will attest, everything comes with Mac n Cheese!!

Now to make things really interesting you probably want to actually go for a southern themed night (though most of the above is from the south too tbh). Confederate flag tablecloth and such sub-Mason-Dixie delicacies as chiterlins (pig intestines), grits, chicken-fried steak, collard greens and pecan or key lime pie. I’ve got indigestion just writing this…

For authentic inspiration check out Atlanta rapper Pill’s first installment of his cooking show…
